Auditions take about 15 minutes and there's no need to prepare any special material.
Auditions
How does the audition work?
Call the Choir office at 215. 222. 3500 ext 1, Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, for an appointment. The Music Director auditions each boy, and the process generally takes less than fifteen minutes.
Is there an age limit?
We audition boys from ages 7 to 12. Most start in our Beginning or Advanced Cadet programs. In some cases, boys with previous musical training can go right into the performing Choir. Boys graduate from the Choir once their voice matures, which usually occurs between the ages of 12 and 15.
Is prior music training necessary?
No. Although prior music experience is helpful, boys will have lessons on music theory and receive vocal training.
What if my son or music student doesn't think he's good enough?
If he has a sincere interest, encourage him to audition anyway. Some of our most gifted boys were reluctant to audition because they were afraid they weren’t good enough.
How long does the cadet program last?
Most boys spend approximately one year each in the Beginning and Advanced Cadet programs, where they learn repertoire, music theory and diaphragmatic breathing before moving on to the performing Choir and earning their red blazers.
Does my son have to give up the school or church choir?
Absolutely not! Boys are encouraged to stay actively involved in all of their choirs, as well as other activities such as sports and clubs.
What kind of time commitment is necessary?
Beginning and Advanced Cadets meet twice a week during the school year on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30 to 5:45 pm. Likewise the Performing Choir has two scheduled rehearsals per week during the school year – on Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. and Saturday from 8:50 am to 12 noon.
What is the cost and what if we need assistance with tuition?
Tuition is $920 for the year (subject to change), with full and partial scholarships available for those in need.
Can you tell me more about the annual tour?
Every year, the performing Choir embarks on a tour to an international location for several days of performances and cultural experiences. Boys are fully chaperoned by adults at all times and stay with host families or in reputable hotels. Tour costs vary annually. The tour is not required for membership, though almost all boys participate.
